1 There is a voice coming from behind you. You turn around and see a small village. You are behind a temple and the woman speaking seems to be speaking to you. “His name is Kalarel and I believe he has established a secret cult near Winterhaven. You must go to Winterhaven and determine if there is any death cult activity in the area, if so you must put an end to Kalarel’s unholy ceremonies” “As agreed, you will be paid 250 gold pieces each for bringing back proof that the cult has been destroyed”. “Go to the Inn of four winds and eat and rest so you can leave in the morning”.SEE PAGE 4 HOOK: OMINOUS SIGNS FOR MORE INFO. Use the encounter from the forgotten realms adaptation as is. the man from winterhaven will accompany the party to his home town avoiding any combat along the way. He is also a follower of pelor as well as bahamut. His name is Gevarn He is on his way home to warn his Lady Linora at the temple of the possibility of death cult of Orcus being in the area. Gevarn has spoken to Marla about a dream he had and about some men he passed on his journey from winterhaven. ADJUST CONVERSATION WITH GEVARN ACCORDING TO THESE FACTS.

Inn of Four Winds

Gevarn will secure rooms for the group and travel supplies for the trip to winterhaven. The group can look around the village but will find no other info on the cult. If they go to the general store they will meet Douvan Staul’s wife Floren. She will tell them that her husband is an avid explorer and has not returned from the area around winterhaven. He had gone in search of a dragon’s tomb and possibly it’s buried horde. He is long over due and Floren is very worried. She promises that Douvan can reward them upon his safe return if they would be so kind as to look out for him on their trip to Winterhaven.

Illithid plot rervealed
old world

The Illithid Plot Revealed

Shortly after the Illithids come and take Feith an old man will appear in camp. He will be dressed in a tattered robe that obviously covers ancient armor. He seems very old yet timeless. He walks to wherever Justin is and begins to speak. How proudly you bear the markings of the WHITE TOWER, how pretty it shines with magic meant to keep it clean so no-one would doubt its source. (He pulls out a human skull with the mark of the white tower burned into the forehead) This woman recognized those who did this to her. She felt the protection of the law as her body burned away while all the while she pleaded for her children’s lives. Order and Justice were surely served by her tortuous death and the acquisition of her children. There once was a time when The Law Protects the People, Order and Justice Serve the Realm’ was heard throughout these lands, but now the Law protects it self and order and justice serve the Law only. Do you know that they are planning to tear down your lofty tower and replace it with a new one; they will call it the tower of Skulls for from the skulls of its victims it will be built. The tower you so Proudly serve is now covered in Blood and the markings of the cult of the Eye. Cordova has fallen and the people try to flee to the North. Whom Do You Serve PALADIN? Heironeious is fallen and his Brother now rules the realm. All is falling into darkness and Hope has fled for distant shores. The towers have either fallen or are under siege. Gorams Head and Gorams Deep are cut off from the rest of the realm. The under realm is taken by the drow and the Ilithids and all manner of foul creature. Whom do you serve PALADIN? The Barbarians to the North bravely hold their land and welcome refugees, but how long can they last once they draw the attention of this swarm of evil? Ask Yourself PALDIN, Whom do you serve? Be sure of your answer and when you have it written on your heart and not your sword, look to these whom fate and destiny have brought to you.(he gestures to all of you) You are all part of the Web and the Weave The Wheel of time has turned and brought you to this here and now together all of you. You are beyond unique, far beyond the reach of those like this woman he holds up the skull and addresses all of you You must continue Your quest and be true to your selves. Find the evil that lies in the shadows; bring light to the realm once again. Save this world, for there are other worlds than this that will fall should this one perish. You are woven together with the threads of fate, Do what must be done to save the tapestry that is this reality. Do not repeat the past DO NOT give in to despair Do not forget WHO YOU ARE. He whistles loud and long, and a Silver dragon lands beside him, he leaps into the saddle on the Dragon’s neck and together they burst into the air. A small piece of cloth drifts down out of the darkness, it is a simple crest, one like that of a household servant. On it is a white tower stitched in humble thread.

SLYNRHANNA’S STORY

Slynrhanna steps forward and clears her throat. He was one of the ancient ones from the original white tower.Once long long ago the Dragons and the Knights of the White Tower made a pact to protect the world from evil. Together they flew all around the world watching over and caring for those in need. They covered the world in light, but that light could not reach beneath the ground. The under Dark was where the great Red Dragon King Aurafeurous lived and ruled. He built an army of Dragons and convinced the Drow that they had been sent below by the Elves above to humiliate them. He gathered all manner of evil creature to himself and then called out to the stars and brought evil from other planes to him. The Illithids came and Dopplegangers and all manner of evil extraplanar creature until the world could no longer hold them. The Protectors and the great druids tried to heal the world, but the cancer within was too great. It burst out and took to the sky and war was everywhere. The protectors held their ground and would have won, but darkness touched the hearts of man. Kings were tempted with power beyond measure, and some loved the sound of steel on steel, Necromancers promised eternal life and glory, and the heart of man grew weak. There was betrayal after betrayal and army turned on army until the only victor was death and chaos. Eventually a sort of stalemate was reached. Many dark creature returned to the underdark but many stayed above and moved to mountain, swamp, desert forest, river, lake and sea. The Elves grew distrustful of man and withdrew, The Dwarves grew distrustful of everyone and went to their mountains, the Halflings withdrew to pastoral settings fearing most others, the gnomes went to the hills to begin their attempts to recover the technology and magic that was lost in the war. The Libraries were all burned and the great towers lay in ruins, the great roads soon became covered with grass and weeds, and mankind divided and spread themselves thinly across the whole of the world. When Goram came to the realm He brought new hope with him and made the realm the new jewel of the world, but as always Jewels attract the eyes of thieves and I fear that once again war rises like a tidal wave ready to wash away all we know and love. Cut off from the Keep The group that escorted the merchant and his wife return. They tell you that they met some folk from the Minotaurs horn, and the Merchant and his wife went with them to the Horn. The Keep has been compromised and the castellan appears to have gone mad. Braumfeld and Rockgut are fortifying the Inn and there is a powerful mage there helping them build defenses. We are pretty much on our own now. Braumfeld said that we can see him when our mission here is done. He thinks it is very important for us to finish what we have started. You can see smoke north of skymount from the inn. SO… You are cut off from the keep and you basically have what you have here to keep yourselves supplied. The good news is Kendall came prepared to be here for quite some time. You have enough supplies to last you about two weeks with all the people and animals you have, plus you found more supplies in the caves. Chances are that there are even more supplies, and possibly more prisoners to rescue that could add to your forces. If necessary you could move the entire camp into the cave you secured so far and defend yourselves from there better than you could with everything out in the open. One of your party is missing, but you did find a note saying that he will be back soon, and to continue on without him the best you can. So…. The question is; What are you going to do now?

The Barbarians

The Barbarians: The people of the north as they call themselves have defended and protected their land for centuries. No-one has ever successfully invaded their territory. They have set up a kill zone along their border using catapult, balista, and other siege engines of their own design. Their border is marked by small white posts that are white washed by boys from 8 to 10years old, this is refered to as maintaining the line. When they are older, if they become warriors, they will man the line by standing over a post ready to fight for their homeland. The posts are about 20’ apart and run for miles along the border very few enemies have ever made it to the line let alone past it. The people of the north have huge supplies of food, from Mamoth herds, to seals and whales, as well as fish farms and vegetable gardens, not to mention natures bounty of berries and nuts. They all work together from the youngest to the oldest. The children go out in groups supervised by an elder and pick berries and nuts. They are told by the elders when to stop picking in an area so they don’t strip it out and casuse the animals to starve. They build their houses under ground digging out the dirt to use in their elevated gardens, and reinforcing the walls with wood and mammoth bones. they make bronze tubes to let out the excess heat and smoke from their fires and the earth keeps them cool in the summer and the snow actually helps keep them warm in the winter. They have massive Ice caves where they make ice for refrigeration purposes as well as for making Ice shot for their catapuilts. tHE ICE IS MOVED DURING THE WINTER TO THE SOUTH AND STORED IN DEEP Warehouses they have dug under ground below the permafrost. They use their own dung as well as that of their animals to produce nasty catapult shot, orcs hate being hit by flaming bags of poop. As well, they make fire bricks for signal fires and also fertilizer. They drain off the liquid and use it to make a low grade acid with which they cut lime stone. They take long stpis of wood covered in paraffin and make a thin channel and pour the acid on the limestone to cut it. It takes a long time to cut a huge block, but they are patient people and don’t need huge blocks of limestone everyday. They have huge watch towers along their border made of wood about 30’ up the sides of the towers are rigged with rope and pulleys to lower and lock into place with poles from underneath. these wings are 40’ long and allow 32 archers per side to form 2 double lines and fire from. The towers are 100’ Tall and have fire pits for sending signals and small catapults for defense, there is also a crude telescope monted on each tower to help watch the border and beyond and a signal Mirror. The children are refered to as toys, mostly for the mothers amusement and they are cute to look at. Once they are able to leave their homes, they are taken into groups and watch by the elders. They are given chores to do, like pickng berries or other easy tasks and as they grow the elders watch them and move them to tasks that suit their abilities. The fast are sent to the line when they are old enough, the smart ones are sent north to work with the alchemists and the shamans, the ones who, like to fight becomw warriors and those who have the knack become farmers. Nothing is wasted and there are lots of people. It is a huge abundant land and it is well managed. The population shows this. There are millions of people of the north and all but the youngest or the infirm do battle in times of war. They are not all on the front lines, but women who cannot fight sharpen weapons and cook for the soldiers, children who are too young to fight carry packages and messages and help to make bandages and poultices and any other task they can help with all the while learning the life of a p[eople in contrast, living in peace with the land and at war with all those who would come against them. They have seen what others have done to the world and they will not tolerate any intrusion into their land. They protect it like a mother protecting her young. When you approach the border all you see is the ribbon of clearing that makes up the kill zone and then the white line that runs for miles and miles along it marking the land of the people of the north. If you are not an invading army you can come right up to the line and see no-one, but you are being watched from the towers and from the foxholes that line the border. You will see small mound wheren they have covered their siege weapons with canvass and straw and earth to protect them from the elements and hide them from the enemy. You will be met by several tribesmen if you put one foot over the line. They will come out of the ground and you will be asked to state your buisness and asked to leave if you value your life. If you are a friend or known to someone a message will be relayed to the tower and from their to the nearest village and on from their untill pretty much the whole country knows you have arrived. You will be allowed to stay with them until word is reached by the one you know and then you will be escorted to that person passed like a batton to different escorts along your journey. They use this system to move small goods and messages as well and is a surprizingly fast and effect system. The only buildings you will see are the huge towers that dot the land scape and run along the border. They keep all the land top side clear for easy movement and to protect their homes from the elements and to preserve the natural beauty of the land, besides if you are an invader and there are no visible cities, it is hard to tell wher eto send your armiy to attack. They have small homes where they sleep and large places to gather together and socialize. They work from the time they get up until it is time to sleep, and find things to do all year. During the time when they cannot hunt or plant, they manufacture goods, weave, make good use of otherwise dead time. The work hard and play hard too, wrestling, snowball fights, skiing, polar bear swims sliding on the ice they even have a game where they try to slide an ice ball into a cricle and the other team tries to shatter it with superior ice or knock it out of the circle. They have hot tubs and hold council meetings while relaxing, no time is wasted for time is not a renewable resource. The people are divided into tribes and this signifies what blood line they come from, it is important for the blood lines to mix and to keep tribal relationships healthy and cooperative. Each tribe is celebrated troughout the year and during this time gifts are exchanged. Just as much emphasis is given to the farmers and fishermen as is to the warriors and hunters. Everyone is celebrated and assured of their contribution to the nation. Elders are praised for their wisdom and the passing on of history, and form a living library. Women bring forth life from their bodies like the earth and every child is a giftr to the people. War, Honey, Bread, Fish, Flowers, and hardships are all enjoyed to their fullest. While working they will often tell each other tales of close calls and hard times or of their families blood line seeing who can remember the furthest generation from their own. They also take the time to travel both to know the land and their people as well as to learn what the world would teach them. They will sometimes exchange people from an eastern tribe with a western tribe to learn new stories and learn about areas they may not otherwise get to.They do not read or write, and the time spent by other cultures in schools is spent learning how to survive and live as one with the world. It is a hard life to be sure, but it is rich in culture and deeply saturated with beauty.

death of your friends
old gicma

1The death of your friends was affected by the elder magic and it’s rules are stronger and different from those you know. Many attempts have been made to return your friends to life or to retrieve their bodies at least but all have failed, even the power of the wish ring is not enough to bring them back. You have discussed every possibility for retrieving your fallen comrades. The shaman tells you that there is another world with a portal to the world of the dead. The world is fragile and protected by powerful guardians who will destroy any who threaten it’s balance. The only way to enter this world is through the eyes of the children who see. This is a group of youths who will someday become shamans or seers. He tells you that you will change as you enter this world and take on the ways of the new world you may also end up brining aspects of the new world with you when you return with your friends. You will automatically return with your comrades when you find them, you won’t have to do anything. When you return the gateway to that world will be gone and you will not be able to return unless you find another portal. He will take you to the caverns of tomorrow when you are ready to go. The caverns of tomorrow are carved from the oldest ice and yet they are not any colder than a normal cave. The children are gathered into a circle and you are each paired with a child. You sit across from each other and look deep into the child’s eyes. You begin to see small lights and then you have the sensation of moving forward as a small world comes into view. You are pulled towards this world and feel yourself lean forward and fall as if you leaned to far in a chair. Wind rushes past your face and you can feel changes in your appearance as you adapt to this strange small world. When you wake from this trance you find yourself standing in a field, the sun shines warm on your face and you feel reborn. You have changed, but you are still you inside. This disguise will have to be explored and tested. You are together and you are not alone.

Storm

A Rising STORM Heironeious Appears before Justin in a vision. I heard your wish and I know your heart and you are right. The Law has been compromised and Order and Justice have fled the realm. I can no longer aid you beyond what I am about to do. My brother has usurped my throne and many evils threaten the realm aye even the whole of this world and countless others after it. You wished to be a pure fighter, my fighter, my perfect storm. I shall reshape you, and you will become my whirlwind. Rain down destruction on my enemies, move fast and fiercely without mercy for those who stand against you. Dark as the sky you shall become with lightning in your hands and power in your arms. I Name you STORM. And I unleash you upon my enemies a whirlwind of vengeance. Go now and cleanse the world of evil, rage on until the sun returns and there is no shadow left for evil to hide within. Heironeious leaves and your armor, sword and shield rust away to nothing. Before you lays a suit of simple armor, blue and grey like a storm cloud, and a great two handed sword shaped like a lightning bolt. The horse shoes you were given on sky mount are now on the hooves of a mighty and Dark War Horse with a white lightning bolt on its hindquarters. It jumps into the air and hovers shoulder height above the ground, the sound of rushing wind accompanies it’s every stride. You feel stronger than you ever have, and quick as lightning, you are ready, you are fierce, you are STORM.

Meeting with Corag and the People of the North

As you approach the Barbarian border the first thing you notice is the huge strip of cleared land that runs along the entire border into their land. This is not a natural feature. The land has been cleared and flattened and is void of vegetation. It looks like a huge scar in the earth. There is also a white line that clearly marks the far edge of the scar. It is made up of small white posts. There are boys running along this line white washing the posts which stick out of the ground about 2’. The posts are about 20’ apart. The only structures you see is the line of Towers that guard the entry to the north lands. There are no villages in sight no signs of people anywhere except for the towers and the boys white washing the post, running back and forth along the line. The towers stand 100’ tall not counting the four poles that suspend the canvas roof. There are people visible on top the tower and they apparently have noticed you. They begin a fire and blue black smoke billows out of the top of the canvas. They also begin flashing messages using mirrors. The other towers relay these messages along the border in each direction. They know you are here, the question is how will you be greeted. There doesn’t appear to be preparations being made to attack you. The watchers from the tower seem to be signaling you. They want you to land and talk with them. You see Corag waiting for you he is with several other barbarians, a woman, 3 children and 4 other men. Two of the men are dressed similar to Corag, and one is an elder. The last is about Corag’s age, but he is dressed differently and blonde with fairer skin, his eyes are dark green with gold stripes radiating out from the pupils. Corag gives venom a huge hug and begins introductions; Morgan is his wife, Cougar a boy of about 9, Agate a girl of about 7, and Corat a boy of about 5. The Elder is introduced as Seer White Star, the two men like Corag are Jogar, and Feenuk. The other man with the green eyes is named Logar. Logar is from the far North east where the fishermen live. Corag tells you there is a village nearby and you are welcome to come and eat with them and that he will call a council meeting so you can discuss with them what it is you have to say. They take you just a couple of miles and then stop. You can see a few bronze tubes sticking out of the ground some of them have light wisps of smoke coming from them. Corag pulls away a large canvas covered with stubble, bleow is a door leading to a large meeting hall underground. Corag explains that all buildings are built under ground. He leads you into the meeting hall and as you wait for the others Seer White Star explains some of the ways of the People of the North. The others start to arrive and the mood changes to one of seriousness and distress. Corag comes to you and tells you that your discussion with the council will have to wait. An army is approaching and they must all prepare for battle. You are invited to watch the defense of the North and to be introduced to the kill zone. At the edge of the kill zone men have lined up, one standing directly over each post as far as the eye can see. You are taken to the top of the tower and in the distance you see what appears to be the shadows of three birds moving slowly across the ground. Seer White Star tells Corag that this new threat is not like any other they have faced in the past. There is a force with them that will protect them from the kill zone. There are three, but the middle one is key. He carries a staff of power. The staff is powered by strong blood and ritual Magic, old magic that touches the darkness from before the making of the world. Corag and the others take what the Seer says as fact and ask what can be done. The Seer tells them that a small group must stop the staff wielder and break the center Staff it controls the other two. Corag calls for six warriors to gather and for the kill zone to be prepared for invasion. Six of his very best step forward and ask the Seer for his blessing. He takes six stones with markings on them and hands one to each of the six. They put the stones into pouches from their belts and then tie them around their necks. You watch from the tower using the seeing lens a crude telescope. The six warriors move quickly across the kill zone. There is a huge creature and two large creature marching as an honor guard to the staff wielder. The front creature, the huge one steps forward and Slashes into the warriors, It can’t be called a battle, it is a slaughter. The huge creature uses it’s massive claws to rip through the warriors is seconds. It picks up one of the dead and eats him whole. Then it falls back into formation as if nothing has happened. Corag is outraged at how easily his attack force was discarded. He calls for his personal guard and states that he himself will bring down the abomination. The Seer walks calmly to his side and whispers something in Corag’s ear. Corag rebukes him ”I cannot, this is our land and our fight” The Seer says, “Yes but one amongst them is your brother, and he can go in your place, I have seen it”. His tone is that of a Father to a Son, a father who is not used to his son’s open rebukes. Reluctantly Corag looks at you, “The Seer speaks only the truth. You are my brother and these are your friends will you go in my place and defend our home against this enemy”? You can see in his eyes that it has taken all of his humility and love for his land and people to ask you for your help. You realize that through this you could guarantee the co-operation of the people of the north in the battle against the dark army to the south. This is your best hope for victory for the realm. Well you’re all leveled up and ready for a fight, this looks like as good a one as you could find anywhere. What do you say, ... What you can see: (Draw diagram of approaching army) Give party info that is available to them about the creatures they see. Mission Objective: Take out the center staff wielder and destroy the staff. The kill zone should be able to stop them once you do your part. Secondary Mission: Kill the Huge creature and as many others as you can before the army reaches the halfway point in the kill zone, oh and try to stay alive.

since you've been gone
Winter

It has been a long and harsh time since you left the crypt. Winter came early and has been unearthly cold and storm ridden. Food has been scarce and warmth impossible to find. Hunkering down in the thickest parts of the forest, you and a newly found band of rebels have struggled for weeks to survive, some have stopped struggling. Travel has been impossible. The sudden fierce storms of winter both freeze the flesh and peel it from the bone with ice particles in the wind like sand in a dessert storm. The only creatures able to move about are those who thrive in these conditions, winter wolves and Ice demons, scour the land seeking rebels or any other poor soul left out in the cold. Every ounce of energy not used to simply survive has been focused on returning shifter to life, though some have murmured that this is no life to bring anyone back to. The realm has changed, the sky, the ground, everything seems pervaded by the evil sickness that has taken over. But there is hope. Word has come to the camp of an elder of the old ways moving in your direction. It is said that he holds the power to return the dead to life. Perhaps as important it is said that he carries warmth with him wherever he goes.

Slynrhanna’s Battle Song

Hear evil ones dark storm has come the elements let fly, we’ve tracked you down and now the time has come for you to die. Dark one revealed with fists of steel and one brings Dragons fire; we’ve come to set the balance right, much to your Masters Ire. Quake now with fear the time is near and soon you all shall die, for righteous wrath has set our path, we hold our banner high. Defeat has come it’s time to run for hope with us resides, your temple we shall raze this night and seal your Lord’s demise.

Song of healing

Good friends attend the words I sing and fill your hearts with light, Your muscles strong your lives be long and refreshed by the night, hear me now friends; your bodies mend and rest your tired mind we leave the battlefield and all our wounds so far behind.
